Finally finished the tutorial for how to recolor in gimp! This tutorial will teach you how to recolor clothing in gimp and add it to S4Studio. You can download GIMP for free here. Keep reading for the tutorial.
Step 1. Start off with a white piece of clothing in GIMP. You can read a tutorial of how to create a white base here.
If there is a part of the clothing you don’t want to recolor, take the lasso tool and draw around the selection. If you are recoloring all of the clothing, skip this step and the next step!
Step 2. Once I have that selection, go to edit>copy and then edit>paste. You will see a floating selection, right click that and choose To New Layer. This will take that undershirt I selected and put it as a new layer.
Step 3. Now make sure your bottom layer is selected. We need to create a new layer for the recolor. Click the icon to create a new layer. Choose transparency and click OK. This layer should be right above the clothing layer.
Step 4. Now open a palette and choose a color from that or simply choose a color you would like to use, I am using a green color. Now click the bucket paint tool and click on the image to fill your new layer with that color.
Step 5. You can see the new layer is filled with green, set this layer to Multiply. Leave the opacity at 100.00.
Step 6. To save go to File>>Export As… I chose to save the file as a .png (I am using a Mac) keep the settings the same as mine.
If you are using the .dds plugin you can save as a .dds file.
