This tutorial will go over the steps of using the Cycles render in Blender to create a white you can use for making textures.

The standard Blender render produces a grey bake which can make recoloring hard. You also get a lot of noĆse if you try to brighten your bake later on.

While watching some tutorials I stumbled over a method of using the Cycles render that allows you to create a nice white bake that makes recoloring a lot easier.

1. Create a black image for your bake as usual.

  1. Switch to the Cycles render (top left corner)

  1. Go to the Material settings

Select image texture as your color and navigate to the black image you just created.

4. Go to the World settings

Change the color to white and the factor to 1.00

5. Go to Render settings

Change the Sampling to "Final".

Additionally you can play around with the sampling settings to create a nicer bake with less noise but be aware that increasing the sampling number also increases the render time!

So I advise you to keep it to the default value unless you know what you're doing.
