Introduction

Since EA added the wrench icon, many creators have been dismayed by the wrench icon appearing on their default replacement recolors. Because of how EA implemented the wrench, any override that contains a CAS Part will show the wrench. Fortunately, if you're making a default texture replacement, you do not have to include CAS Parts in your recolor package. This tutorial will show you how to get rid of them easily using Sims 4 Studio.

What you will need

Sims 4 Studio (Harmony) or (Appletini) or above

Instructions

Open Studio and select Override under the CAS button. Click the CAS button:

Filter the thumbnail page to find the item you want to create an override for. I am overriding a vampire eye. Once you've selected the item, click the Next button (please note, this tutorial was made using a version of Studio with an updated eye thumbnail list. This version will be available in beta shortly but the tutorial will work for versions with the old list):

Create your recolor as usual. Here I have replaced just a single swatch but you can recolor as many as you choose:

Save the .package and then click the Warehouse tab that is on the left side above the model viewer window. Once in the Warehouse, select all the CAS Part resource lines. You can select them one by one by holding down the Alt key or you can select them all at once using the Shift key. Once they are selected, click the Delete button to remove them from the package:

Once those are gone, remove all other resources except for the RLE 2 images (those are the diffuse images you imported for your recolors). Once all that is left in the package are RLE 2 Image resources, click the Save button. Please note, if you edited bumps or specular images you need to leave those in the package or else your recolor will use the original EA bump and specular images:

Put your package into the Documents/Sims 4/Mods folder and test it in the game. Here you can see my recolored yellow eye with dots and the eye selection icon for it does not have a wrench:

Overrides that require a CAS Part in order to work will always have a wrench icon on them so this will not work for mods that require overriding the CAS Part resource. Recolors of EA items do not require a CAS Part resource so you can easily make EA default override recolors that do not have a wrench icon on the catalog thumbnail or swatch thumbnail.
