You would not believe how common it is for people to setup their TDESC Browser wrong. I’m not sure if it’s a case of not reading the bottom of the download description (easy to miss), or not understanding it, but either way it’s a common issue and deserves its own tutorial because of it.
You will of course need the TDESC Browser and the current TDESCs (always pinned at the top of this forum, the highest number). Older TDESCS are optional if you want to see changes between patches (you’ll need to search for them, just type in TDESC).
Step 1: Install the TDESC Browser like you would any other program first. Then make a folder somewhere of your choice to store the TDESCs and name it whatever you want. I placed my folder in my main mod creating folder and named mine TDESC, while Scumbumbo named his Tuning Description.
Step 2: Open the folder you just created and create a new sub-folder inside it, naming it after the current TDESC/patch number. As of this tutorial’s writing that is patch 1.66.139, so this folder’s name is 1.66.139. I also made a subfolder for each previous TDESC. Note that a sub-folder is required for the TDESC Browser to function properly.
Step 3: Once you have your sub-folder(s) created, open the first (or only) sub-folder you made. Open the matching TDESC .zip you downloaded and drag and drop the folders into the matching sub-folder (so 1.66.139 TDESCs go into the 1.66.139 sub-folder). Your sub-folder(s) should now look like this with a bunch of categories.
Step 4: Once you’ve finished you need to open the TDESC Browser. Go to Settings > Tdesc Root Folder and navigate to where you setup your TDESCs. Now just like the setting says you need to choose the root folder, aka the main folder, of your TDESCs. Do not choose a sub-folder as the TDESC will not work properly, it just needs to be the main folder you created in Step 1. In the second pic you can see my main folder (TDESC) is selected and each sub-folder (named after the TDESC/patch version) listed but not selected.
Step 5: And you’re done. Your TDESC Browser should look similar to mine if you setup properly and downloaded all the TDESCs, or should look similar but with only one set of TDESC if you choose to only use the most recent TDESC. If all the files are red, that means you installed it wrong. Make sure to follow the tutorial exactly and try again.
Yellow marked files mean there was a change from the last patch (including new files), while green marked files mean they are new.
